Yellow City

Description: Currently on display at the Chyro Arts Venue in Scottsdale, AZ, I painted this in a burst of enthusiasm and emotion. It captures the push and pull between logic and feeling that I was experiencing when I painted it.
This work is acrylic on canvas. There is no need for a frame and the work is ready to hang. The design continues onto the edges of the painting and is free of staples. A unique design on each of the four sides creates a different look as you view it from different parts of your room. The painting is signed and dated on the back, with initials and year on the front.
I began with structured layers of blues and greens that became increasingly less structured, until I allowed the paint to drip and run on the canvas, turning the canvas on each of the fours sides to create drip lines.
You'll notice I left part of the canvas uncovered. You can actually see tiny dots of the canvas in the bottom center of the work. Canvas is usually completely hidden in paint, the same way we usually hide away our emotions in public. I wanted to reveal part of the canvas, just as my emotions were showing in an open way as I painted it.
I wanted the yellow paint to be wild and uninhibited. I had an urge to dip my hands directly into the yellow paint. I then decided to add a kiss print with my own mouth. Certainly not your everyday painting techniques, but it expressed what I was feeling at the time.
